Journal Article 2021 03 05 In his political novel, <em>Autumn</em>, Ali Smith has implicitly integrated family life with political matrices of British-European relations. In this study, <em>Autumn</em> was investigated in light of Kenneth Burke's notions of identification, substance, symbolism, and imagination known as rhetoric of motives. Identification refers to identifying with characters having some components or substances in common. Rhetoric of motives refers to the application of terms with persuasive function that move people into action. The themes of Ali Smith's <em>Autumn</em> are in congruity with Kenneth Burke’s theoretical ideas represented as theme of love to explain illogical coupling of a young woman and an old man that recalls England and Europe/EU interconnection and mismatching relations. This study explored how the rhetoric and dialect of Smith that have symbolic meanings and functions is motivating through identification with characters. Burke believes that through rhetoric of motives and grammar of motives it is possible to create protagonists that people can easily identify with to persuade them into action based on their intended political views. Through rhetoric of motives by the seasonal novel via identification, symbolism, and imagination, Smith indirectly portrays the political event of Brexit (British Exit) and its consequences in British society. رمان پاییزِ علی اسمیت اثری سیاسی است که به‌طور تلویحی از مفاهیم هم‌ذات‌پنداری و نمادین استفاده می‌کند. جستار حاضر بررسی مفاهیم هم‌ذات‌پنداری، تجسم، نمادگرایی، و مضامین مکرر بلاغی را در بر می‌گیرد. هم‌ذات‌پنداری بیانگر حس یگانگی با شخصیت‌هایی است که افراد ممکن است با آنها نقاط مشترک یا همانندی داشته باشند. مضامین مکرر بلاغی به معنای کاربرد کلماتی انگیزشی است که مردم را به عمل وا میدارد. درون‌مایۀ رمان‌ پاییز با نظریات کنت بورک هم‌راستا است. اسمیت از درون‌مایه عشق استفاده می‌کند تا جفت‌شدن غیر‌منطقی یک زن جوان با یک مرد پیر در داستان پاییز را توضیح دهد که بیانگر روابط متقابل و در عین حال ناسازگاری بین کشور انگلیس و اتحادیه اروپاست. این مقاله ادعا دارد که بلاغت و گفتگویی‌بودن رمان‌های اسمیت با هم‌ذات‌پنداری افراد با شخصیت‌های تاریخی و نماد‌های ادبی باعت برانگیختگی جامعه می‌شود. بورک بر این عقیده است که از طریق مضامین مکرر بلاغی و نحوی می‌توان قهرمان‌هایی خلق کرد تا مردم به راحتی با آنها هم‌ذات‌پنداری کنند. می‌توان چنین نتیجه گرفت که اسمیت با بکارگیری مضامین مکرر بلاغی و با تاکید بر هم‌ذات‌پنداری، تجسم، و نمادگرایی حادثه سیاسی برونرفت بریتانیا از اتحادیه اروپا و عواقب آن را در جامعه بریتانیا به تصویر می کشد. https://efl.shbu.ac.ir/article_134482_ea513f700c94d2143c2787020a3bf38f.pdf
