It also aimed to reveal translation strategies applied by both translators in their translations, Siyahat-i Masihi (‘سیاحت مسیحی’) by J. L. Potter in 1926 and Seir-o Solouk-i Za’ir (‘سیر و سلوک زائر’) by Golnaz Hamedi in 2002. To do so, SL gender-specific charactonyms and TL equivalents were compared together at Evelyn Hatch’s (1992) macro-level analysis. According to Hatch (1992), characters, as one of the elements of a story, play a significant role and affect the macrostructure of the story. Then, Alexander Kalashnikov’s (2011) two types of charactonyms were used to analyze the translations. The results show that Potter preferred to preserve the titles of gender (masculine and feminine) in his translation. In contrast, Hamedi more tended to distance the gender of the charactonyms having deeper meanings. This led to affect the novel due to the omission of the characteristics and additional information behind the charactonyms. هدف از تحقیق حاضر مطالعه اسامی خاص جنسیت و معانی آنها در ترجمه های فارسی از کتاب The Pilgrim's Progress اثر جان بانیان (1678/1999) می باشد. این تحقیق همچنین تلاش نموده راهبردهای ترجمه به کاربرده شده توسط دو مترجم در ترجمه هایشان، "سیاحت مسیحی" ترجمه ج. ال. پاطر و "سیر و سلوک زائر" ترجمه گلناز حامدی را آشکار سازد. جهت انجام این مطالعه، اسامی خاص جنسیت زبان مبداء و معادل های زبان مقصد بر اساس تحلیل کلان ساختار اِوِلین هاچ (1992) تطبیق داده شدند. بر اساس نظر هاچ (1992)، شخصیت ها، به عنوان یکی از عناصر داستانی، نقش مهمی ایفا کرده و بر کلان ساختار داستان اثرگذار می باشند. همچنین، دو نوع اسامی خاص آلکساندر کالاشنیکف (2011) در تحلیل این ترجمه‌ها استفاده شده است. نتایج نشان می‌دهد پاطر ترجیح داده است تا عناوین جنسیت (مذکر و مونث) را در ترجمه خود حفظ کند. بر عکس، حامدی بیشتر تمایل داشته است تا از بیان جنسیت اسامی خاص دارای معانی عمیق تر فاصله گرفته و به واسطه حذف ویژگی ها و اطلاعات اضافه عناوین خاص بر داستان اثرگذار بوده است.
